Saving Forests $68 At A Time
The Garden Club of Cape Coral participates in the Penny Pines plantation conservation and restoration project. Our annual contribution covers a small part of the costs of replanting pine trees and other trees. These trees are indigenous to an area damaged by fire, hurricanes or other natural catastrophes.
Under a conservation agreement, the USDA Forest Service will do the planting, using our donation together with federal funds, and the donations of other garden clubs. The Penny Pines plantations are a part of the regular national forest reforestation program. These plantations provide soil protection, watershed protection, soil stabilization, future harvestable timber, as well as beauty and shade for recreation.
The National Garden Club and the USDA Forest Service partnership program sustains our national and urban forests through this reforestation and forest education program.
