In the summer of 1997 Master Gardener Marty Ward, along with long time gardening friend Beverly Ray, founded a new garden club in Cape Coral. As of August 1997, there were 23 paid members who began meeting in Marty's home. The club became affiliated with the National Garden Clubs, Inc., the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and the Fort Myers - Lee County Garden Council, Inc. the next year. Sherie Bleiler was installed as the first president in December 1997. In the beginning meetings were held in member's homes but as the club membership increased, the meetings were moved to a local church. Members were enthusiastic as they planted and maintained the planters along Cape Coral Parkway, designed and maintained a Tiny Tots Garden for pre-school Children at Four Freedom's Park and sponsored a book signing and sale for "A Garden Diary". Many traditions begun in those first few years the club continues today.
